Spring Fever

Anyone who knows Colorado weather, knows that it is unpredictable.

Lately, it has been in the upper 40s to lower 70s during the day and teens to 30s in the evening.  And then it will snow for two days and then go back to the beautiful spring temps.  Does Colorado know it is STILL winter?

I decided this morning that this kind of weather has caused my Spring Fever to hit early!

It takes everything I have not to put all the really warm, winter clothes away.  Because everyone knows that winter is not truly over in Colorado until April.  I want to start planting seeds for the garden.  I want to turn off the heat and open windows!  I WANT TO WEAR FLIP FLOPS!

One thing I can start doing (and have) is the big spring cleaning.  Would it be called Pre-Spring Cleaning?

Dan and I worked on the garage and got it cleaned up from the holidays.  I pulled all our old documents and shredded them. (3 very full trash bags of shredded paper).  Hmmm... What else can I start doing.....

How about you guys out there reading my blog? Spring Fever yet?

DIY Wooden Ghosts

I love pinterest!  I can spend HOURS going through all the great ideas and wonderful pictures!
One of the very first "PINS" I did was for a DIY project for Halloween.  2x4 Ghosts was the title.  OMG I can totally do that!  Take 2x4s and paint them like ghosts!
Well, I am one of those people that like to know EXACTLY how it's done.  So I click on the link provided with the "PIN" and there were no instructions.... NOOOOO!
I even tried "GOOGLE"ing 2x4 Ghosts hoping that I could find something. Nope!
So I went out on my own!
The materials I used were:

  • 6x6 pieces of wood (I inherited these.  2x4s or even 4x4s will work just as great!  Mine are around 2                        feet tall.  Put them at whatever height you would like.)
  • White Paint ( I used outdoor, flat, no gloss paint.)
  • Black Paint (Same as above)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Newspaper or drop cloth
  • Pencil
  • Sander (optional)
  • Stencils for faces (optional)
**I wanted mine to have a distressed look over time.  So I did not put primer on mine.  If you want yours to look nice and neat, then use primer, either get paint that already has it in it or apply after you paint.
** You can also use gloss paint if you prefer.

First Step:
- Get your wood!
Like I said, I inherited my 6x6 pieces of wood from my mother out of her front yard.
They had a great deal of life left in them.

Step 2:
- Sand your wood, if needed.
I took a sander to my 6x6s before painting them.  They had JUST a bit of roughness to them.
      Use your judgement.

Step 3:
- Paint it!
I only needed one coat of white paint.  Use your judgement!

My Little Guy helping me out!
(And his face is not always that color... he had his face painted like Spider Man earlier that day.)

These are my posts after painted white.

Step 4:
- Stencils for the Faces
This step is optional.  If you are artistic and can freehand faces, go for it! I went online and found faces
to print out.  Then I cut out the dark parts. Use simple patterns or eccentric ones.
Here are a few links that might help you with some faces:

Step 5:
- Apply faces.
I used a pencil to trace my stencils.

Step 6:
- Paint Face
Once you have your face sketched out, paint it black.  I used a small art paint brush instead of a
larger brush that you use on walls or fence. I had to do two coats for the face.  You may have to do
    more or less.

Step 7:
-Here is where you would also add a primer if you choose.

And DONE!

Here are a few of my finished products!

I was thinking of putting this one out at Christmas time with a Santa hat on it... A La Nightmare Before Christmas....

Trick or Treat Street Review

Every year, our little family has the most fun doing fall and Halloween type things in October! This year, we checked out TRICK OR TREAT STREET at THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM.

Theses two little goblins are my little ones!  Bubba as Iron Man!  Dani as a Lady Bug!

The cool part about Trick Or Treat Street is that you can still play around with the regular attractions at the Museum!
The Mad Monster Lab was decked out with doctor/hospital lab type of toys and plenty of "monsters" to work on!

Dani playing with the x-rays and Bubba working on a monster

Bubba and Daddy playing with science!

Through out the whole event were booths for Trick or Treating!  Each booth is sponsored by different businesses.  Everything from candy to tooth brushes were handed out to children.

The kids playing on the dance floor. Once you step onto the floor, "bubbles" appear and go wherever you go!
The kids also got to do Halloween type crafts!  Here they are making Ghost Lanterns.

Which Daddy got to do instead!  Life of a parent!

Outside, there is a really cool Harry Potter display!

Three Orange Doods are a roaming performance.  Below they are playing drums and letting the kids play as well.  At one point, one came up to Bubba and took his mask, then put it on!

We had a great time at Trick or Treat Street!  There is plenty of things to keep the little ones occupied!  More than I have listed.  The only problem we had was keeping the two kids happy.  The 4 year old wanted to do EVERYTHING!  And the 18 month old wanted to keep going.  Good thing there was two of us!

Want to go?  HURRY! Trick or Treat Street is just for ONE WEEKEND!  October 26th-28th!
